Chocolate Brownie Cake with Fresh Strawberry Whipped Cream – Chocolate Lovers United
Brownie recipe taken from allrecipes.com Fresh Strawberry Whipped Cream recipe is an original from cookbookmaniac.com Brownies are a blessing to the home baker. You get a superior product with a minimal amount of effort. Instead of dressing it up, it is best left the way it is. Therefore the cake is prepared and baked in almost no time, and your chocolate craving is satisfied sooner rather than later. There are so many varieties available. There are the gooey and fudgy kinds, or the chewy and cakey. Even ones filled with nuts, raisins or rum. I have tried many types (being a chocolate lover) and I have to admit I love them all. There is no mystical science to making brownies, the only rule that seems to pervade every recipe that I have come across is to take the brownies out of the oven when the aroma of it baking hits the air. This is because many of the compounds that give chocolate its flavour are highly volatile and easily lost. The brownies will continue to cook for a few minutes from residual heat, it is best to remove brownies from the oven as early as possible, generally when a toothpick test still shows a few moist crumbs. CHOCOLATE BROWNIE CAKE 2 cups caster sugar 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 2/3 cups cocoa powder 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 4 eggs 1 cup plain flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/ Take butter out of the fridge and allow it…

In an attempt at being a little more healthy I converted one of my all-time favourite salads to include a wholegrain and less fat. I went on an accidental healthfood shopping spree with a friend and I picked up a packet of the ancient grain, quinoa, which seems to have suddenly taken the health-conscience western world by storm. It was simple to prepare and its addition did not seem to interfere with the true essence of the recipe. Instead of deep-fried flatbread, I used toasted, leftover sourdough bread. I must confess, the inclusion of these croutons was more out of frugality than mere health concerns. We had a remaining half a loaf from the previous nights delicious beef bourguignon. I couldn't bear to see it go to waste. It toasted up a treat and I added it in at the very moment I was ready to consume this superfood salad. These bite-size cubes can get very soggy when sitting in the dressing. Ingredients Recipe adapted from New Flavours of the Lebanese Table┬áby Nada Saleh 2 tablespoons organic white quinoa 2 roma tomatoes 1 cucumber 4 radishes 1/2 red onion 4 leaves of cos lettuce handful of flat parsley leaves half-handful of fresh mint juice of half a lemon 1 teaspoon of pomegranate molasses 1 garlic clove, crushed 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil approx 2 large slices of sourdough bread 1/2 teaspoon sumac 1/ Rinse the quinoa in a bowl of water and drain. It's been a while since my last post. I've been busy re-designing my blog layout and house-hunting. Both tasks are proving to be a big challenge, but I will soldier on and not give up. I am too determined to have the blog layout of my dreams and a humble abode. One thing is for sure I have a bad habit of diving into the deep end of things without a crash helmet. There are some important lessons that I have learnt: Firstly, patience and understanding is a virtue. My poor sister has to put up with my nonsense explanations, multiple emails, random phone calls and constant questions. She really is a gem for doing this probono. Secondly, don't listen to anyone (except your mortgage broker) when it comes to advice about home loans and real estate. It is currently an unstable/unpredictable economic climate where legislation and laws change almost on a daily basis. Buying a home will be the biggest purchase Pizzaboy and I will make in our lifetime, therefore emotions are running high, desperation creeps in as every day passes and misinformation can be passed around easily just by the click of a button. A simple statement by anyone can send a surge of sudden panic through us. We have learned not to listen and only receive our information from certain sources. I had a plan to not concentrate on blogging for a month, then I received a generous tray of 5 sweet pineapples from the King of…
