“…Of Course We Have Scampi!” Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant New York City
Warning! Warning! Touristy restaurant review ahead Proceed with caution Warning! Warning! Forrest Gump is one of my favourite films. I jumped with unabashed joy when we walked past the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant in Times Square, New York. I had no idea that the restaurant existed and I was determined to dine there. Just to give it a go. Bubba's dream is alive! I usually try and stay away from tourist-driven places when on holidays but I couldn't help but giggle like a japanese school girl when I enter the premises. The restaurant looks like the Hard Rock Cafe for Forrest Gump paraphernalia. Downstairs is filled with merchandise from the film. T-shirts, shorts, caps, mugs, pens, photo frames are printed with tacky sayings and logos mostly taken from the film. This is my sister, Bunnifer The restaurant was a little more tasteful and was themed more accurately to the film than the merchandise downstairs. There is a bar area and some semi-private rooms that are decorated like pergolas. There is a sign on the table with "Run Forrest Run" and "Stop Forrest Stop" when you flip it. It is used to let the waiter know that you need something. We ate our way through New York City. We gobbled down NY-style pizzas, bought freshly made bagels from food vans, snacked on NY hot dogs, dined at posh restaurants, devoured cupcakes at the Magnolia Bakery and visited touristy restaurants like Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. The "...Of Course We Have Scampi!"…

Magnolia Bakery – Greenwich Village, New York City
If you didn't know already, I am a HUGE fan of Sex and the City. Its humour, clever writing, tongue-in-cheek fashion and witty characters, captivated my imagination and perhaps is a large influence in my writing today. When my sisters and I were arranging a trip to New York City, I was adamant that we go on the Sex and the City tour. They all agreed that it would be a lot of fun. We got to visit a few places that were featured in the TV Series. We bought a Manhattan drink at the place where they shot Steve and Aiden's bar. We walked past the stoop to Carrie's apartment (apparently Sarah Jessica Parker only lives down the street from there). We visited the sex shop where the girls bought Charlotte her infamous rabbit. The one place that we visited and left a lasting impression with me was the Magnolia Bakery. It sold old-fashioned cupcakes, layer cakes, puddings and cookies. From opening until closing time, there would be scores of people lining up around the block for this place. It is the only bakery that I know of that needs a bouncer! There is even restrictions on the amount of cupcakes people can buy per person. Yes, they really are that great! The first bite that I took changed my opinion of cupcakes forever. These were unlike any cupcake that I had eaten before. The vanilla bottom was very light and sweet, the butter cream was pillowy soft and…

Mars Hill Cafe – Music, Poetry, Photography
On the ever so popular Church Street in Parramatta, there are many places that can tickle ones fancy. There are big loud pubs and clubs, wine and dine restaurants, swish sport bars, hip cafes. Mars Hill Cafe sits quietly amongst them without much ado, it is the hidden gem amongst all the eateries. It describes itself as "a local music and art venue as well as a cool place to hang out. The cafe provides ethical coffee, affordable food, outdoor dining and performance spaces." This isn't far from the truth. Mars Hill Cafe would not be dissimiliar to any other cafe you would find on King St, Newtown. Its bohemian atmosphere and friendly staff makes it the most approachable eatery on Church st. It is host to many events such as: * Art Exhibitions * Music Acts * Poetry readings * Writer groups * and other social events Pizzaboy and I decide to head to Mars Hill after a visit to the cinemas. The coffee is always dependably great and this would be the first time we order food. With much elation, the food is just as great as their coffee. Light, clean, smooth, but with a punch of flavour.
