    Ramen Kan in Bondi – Errrr… What’s all the noise about?
    A Funny Red-headed Guy once told me that his favourite restaurant is McDonalds. He wasn't a child. He is 29 years old, skinny, tall, handsome, prefers never to wear shoes and never shuts up. You see, I am the kind of person who always asks what people are eating or what are their favourite restaurants. I try and connect with people through food. When Funny Red-headed Guy told me this I couldn't help but screw my face up in judgement. "Oi. Don't bag out the Macca's. I grew up on the stuff. Now look at me." He strikes a pose. Who am I to judge? If eating McDonalds makes him happy, then good for him. He also told me that his favourite ramen is from Ramen Kan. He said that their ramen makes everyone else's seem like instant noodles. I immediately wrote the recommendation down in my mental checklist of places to visit. I had heard of Ramen Kan and was quite excited by his description of their egg noodles. Pizzaboy and I find ourselves in Bondi one beautiful day with little idea of what we wanted for lunch. We settle for Ramen Kan. Their menu has a dizzying array of food items and I cannot decide what I want. I must've taken about 5 minutes to come to a decision.     Gumshara – This broth is so hearty, it is going to give me a heart attack!
    "Hey Pizzaboy, I'm thinking I might do a theme". "Uh oh... like what?" "My search for the best ramen in Sydney" "Ok! I'm in. Where are we going!" You may have read about how Pizzaboy and I discovered and fell in love with Tonkotsu Ramen in Japan. Ever since our return we have realised that there are many ramen restaurants throughout Sydney. It was just a matter of getting out there and finding the one that calls out my name and says to me "I am the one". According to Time Out Sydney, Gumshara is one of the top 5 noodle places in Sydney. That is a very bold statement. Sydney is a city that has seen waves of immigration and now has so many authentic places to dine at, whittling the list to just five seems impossible and unfathomable. "We're going to Gumshara". "Whatshara? Gaa Gaa?" "They boil down 120kg of pork marrow bones and tendons with just water for an entire day and it becomes this thick soup of collagen rich tonkotsu." "Oooh! Is it nice?" "Must be. Sydney Morning Herald dedicated an entire page to its review of this place." "Nah, we're not going." "Why?" "All those authentic places are damned when they get popular." "Well, if it weren't for its popularity we wouldn't know about it. Let's just go and see what its like."     Tan Viet Noodle House – Cabramatta
    Tan Viet is one of our favourite places to eat. They serve traditional vietnamese cuisine but they are famous for their "Criskin Chicken". Yes - Criskin. It's an appropriate play on the words crispy and skin. And if you are familiar with the vietnamese accent, this is how the vietnamese say crispyskin in english. Or possibly a spelling mistake made many years ago, and now is the norm. They are so reliable that we order the same thing on every visit. This is one of few places that I rarely stray from my usual order because my favourite thing on the menu is so good I want to eat it every time that I visit. The chicken is wonderfully crispy and amazingly flavourful. They somehow manage to get the skin super-crispy and the flesh¬†really moist. My mother tells me they cook it twice. They boil it first to cook the flesh and then they deep fry to make the skin crispy. But it is the flavour that captivates me the most and keeps me coming back for more and more. Addictive is another way to describe it. To add to its¬†addictive nature, when walking nearby the aroma alone is like the Pied Piper calling for all to come and devour it. I love to eat the Criskin Chicken with Dry Egg Noodle. The dry egg noodle has a secret sauce drizzled on it to give them an exquisite flavour. Pizzaboy loves to eat Criskin Chicken with Tomato Rice.
