Bangbang Espresso Bar and Cafe in Surry Hills

Breakfast on weekends is a very big deal for me. During the week I am always running late for work. I either miss breakfast altogether or pick up something quick on the way. I know its bad for me but bad habits die hard. One weekend I woke feeling inspired to have a great breakfast at a nice cafe. Pizzaboy thought I was insane, but I would not let the idea go. So I jumped on Urbanspoon and came across this lovely cafe in trendy Surry Hills. It is located uphill amongst some lovely terrace houses. Its clean, bright and quirky decor made me feel wide awake and relaxed. I loved the giant sketch of a headphone set across the wall – a not-so-subtle hint to the owner Alan Thompson’s…

“…Of Course We Have Scampi!” Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant New York City

Warning! Warning! Touristy restaurant review ahead Proceed with caution Warning! Warning! Forrest Gump is one of my favourite films. I jumped with unabashed joy when we walked past the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Restaurant in Times Square, New York. I had no idea that the restaurant existed and I was determined to dine there. Just to give it a go. Bubba’s dream is alive! I usually try and stay away from tourist-driven places when on holidays but I couldn’t help but giggle like a japanese school girl when I enter the premises. The restaurant looks like the Hard Rock Cafe for Forrest Gump paraphernalia. Downstairs is filled with merchandise from the film. T-shirts, shorts, caps,…

The Smokehouse – Vintage quirky and mighty delicious

I love to travel. Take me to any exotic place and I will not fear to venture out on my own. There is nothing more exhilarating than to get lost in a city and discovering its many hidden treasures without the aid of a travel book or map. Pizzaboy and I have not been able to travel as much as we use to since we decided to settle down and buy a home. All our savings are now being banked up in a volt for when we find the right place. Isn’t it odd that we must save money to borrow money? We have had to give up on a lot of things in pursuit of the homeownership dream, but we are not able to sacrifice the luxury of eating out. The discovery of The Smokehouse had left me with the same…

Tan Hung Vuong – This is how you roll it!

The food courts in Cabramatta are unlike most food courts you will find in large shopping centres. There is no KFC, McDoanlds, Doner Kebab vendors or fake-chinese stalls. They are mostly fresh and authentic foods from Vietnam, Thailand, China and Laos. In fact, KFC once opened its doors here and only lasted 6 months. The locals preferred fresh and local produce and did not welcome the idea of frozen, msg-laden fried chicken. Our favourite Vietnamese vendor is Tắn Hủng Vướng in AA Supermarket. We come here quite often when we want fast and cheap food. Almost all of the menu items are $10 or less and they make great Vietnamese coffee. Their menu contains a vast array of Vietnamese…
